Moluccan Cockatoo Cage Size

Having a Moluccan cockatoo in a cage that is large enough is important for its health and welfare. Due to their size and activity, these birds need a lot of room to walk about, exercise, and spread their wings. The following broad rules apply to cage size:

• Minimum Dimension: The cage must be at least 36 inches (91 cm) wide, 48 inches (122 cm) tall, and 36 inches (91 cm) deep. These are the minimum specifications. But bigger is usually preferable, particularly for a bird that size and activity level.
• Bar Spacing: To keep a moluccan cockatoo from bolting or having its head trapped between the bars, the distance between the bars should not be greater than 1 to 1.5 inches (2.5 to 3.8 cm).
  The cage should have enough horizontal space for the moluccan cockatoos to walk about and exercise, as they are strong flyers and climbers.
