Breeding

Between the months of January and July, the species typically reproduces once a year. Food exchanges between partners appear to be intimately tied to procreation, and they may even act as a catalyst for sexual activity. The male will be present in the area of the nest when supplying food. The female lays 2-4 eggs, which she incubates for just a span of 24 to 28 days. The parents feed the chicks till they exit the nest, which typically happens between 60 and 65 days after birth.

In the wild, the Puerto Rican Amazon parrot feeds mostly on nectar, seeds, fruits and vegetables and sometimes insects for extra protein. As companion pets it is advisable to provide the bird with formulated pellets to sustain a healthy lifestyle and balance diet.
Life Span
Like any other amazon parrot, the Puerto Rican Amazon bird is capable of living for up to 50 years if well care for and provided with constant exercise to keep its feathers healthy and strong.
