Breeding
Compared to the majority of Amazons, lilac-crowned Amazons are more challenging to reproduce in captivity. They need seclusion because they are naturally introverted. Lilac-crowned Amazons have a short mating season in North America, usually lasting between February or March to June or July. They reproduce mostly in the spring. Typically, a clutch contains 3 to 4 eggs.
The incubation phase lasts roughly 24 to 26 days. Typically, chicks leave the nest between 10 and 12 weeks of age. Lilac-crowned Amazons can be hand-reared with considerable ease. The majority of hand raising formulas work well.
Care
All Amazon parrots enjoy human communication and require it in moderation to stay healthy and content. Small groups of lilac-crowned Amazons can be found in the wild. As a keeper you will have to develop into that flock while in captivity. An abandoned bird develops loneliness, harmful coping mechanisms, and depression. The lilac-crowned Amazon adores the water, much like other Amazons, and requires a shower at least once each week. A high-quality pelleted food combined with seed mix and daily portions of fresh, suitable for birds fruits and vegetables is the best diet for these birds. To maintain top health and nutrition your bird will benefit from a fresh and varied diet.
Do Lilac Crowned Amazon Birds Talk?
n typical Amazon style, the lilac-crowned Amazon is gregarious and unreserved, and isn’t shy about making noise and defending its territory. It isn’t as noisy or loud as some of the other popular Amazons, but noise is relative, so those with sensitive ears will not make good companions for this bird. A cage cover is a good idea so that owners won’t be woken up early in the morning.
